We believe professional level clerking is more than taking minutes.
Having a clerk who understands the current complexities of the education sector, is personable, can give advice on governance and legislative changes, and assist the Governing Body with making shrewd decisions is critical.
This blog is based on Judicium’s Safeguarding ‘Sofa Session’ from the 7th of September, with our resident expert Helen King. This session focused on how to provide sufficient challenge when looking at safeguarding in your school; what policies and procedures are in place or need revising; and how to create a whole-school approach to safeguarding.
Judicium excerpt taken from Wild Search "Robust, Resilient and Ready - Assessing and Strengthening Governance in Charities and Education".
"By dispelling stereotypes and ideas of what a clerk should be or do, we have opened the door to governance professionals who can become supportive, active members of the Governing Body"
Governors play a crucial role in the governance and oversight of schools. Despite the high expectation and responsibility associated with this voluntary role, governors are often the least visible leaders within school. Considering this, we’ve put together a helpful poster detailing the top 3 objectives of a school governor.
Our Judicium clerk is always professional and hugely supportive during our meetings. However, her service goes beyond this: she has used her experience and knowledge to provide additional information to support our governors' understanding.
She is excellent at providing support with navigating the governor hub and has supported our new governors to feel part of our team – she always replies to the notice board messages and is so friendly and enthusiastic with her responses!"

Judicium was formed twenty years ago when our two founding barristers discussed the rapidly changing education landscape. With many school leaders facing continuous challenges such as academisation, staffing, and increases surrounding statutory requirements, schools were focusing on economies of scale, streamlining of resources and long term sustainable financial viability of their school.
Judicium Education exists to improve the quality and affordability of robust legal advice for the education sector. With a passion for people, we have developed an unlimited support model that allows for flexibility, growth, and a wealth of knowledge from experts dedicated solely to helping make education better.
